Peripheral ring opacity of the cornea.

چکیده
(i) A 59-year-old Caucasian male presented at the casualty department complaining of pricking in the right eye. Symptoms were caused by a marginal infiltrate and this resolved on conventional therapy. A recurrence one month later also responded well. Each cornea presented an arcus senilis and, in the zone ofstroma affected by the arcus, an additional opacity could be seen. This was identical in each eye, and took the form of a striking, narrow, dense white ring in the stroma, passing forwards as a band from Descemet's to Bowman's membrane (Fig. l).

Bilateral, anterior stromal ring opacity of the cornea.
AIMS/BACKGROUND To describe a bilateral, mid peripheral, ring-shaped corneal opacity, not resembling any known corneal degeneration, dystrophy, or other disorder, and occurring without ocular or systemic disease. METHODS Ophthalmic examination, haematological screening, and ultrasound biomicroscopy. RESULTS A 25 year old man showed grey-white, granular opacities in both corneas, with an 8 m...
متن کاملKeratoconus experimentally produced in mice using collagenase
Introduction: Keratoconus is a relatively common disease of cornea in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a conical shape and scar at the central portion of cornea. So far, few methods and drug treatments were introduced due to both lack of accepted animal models to induce experimental keratoconus and limitation of research in human considering ethical issu...
متن کاملA Case of Bilateral Descemet's Membrane and Subepithelial Opacity: In vivo Laser Confocal Microscopic Study
PURPOSE To report the in vivo laser confocal microscopy findings from a patient with Descemet's membrane and subepithelial opacity OU. CASE REPORT A healthy 41-year-old male with Descemet's membrane and subepithelial opacity OU was studied. Routine ophthalmic examination, standard slit-lamp biomicroscopy, and in vivo laser confocal microscopic analysis of the entire corneal layer were perform...
متن کاملTREATMENT OF GROSS CORNEAL OPACIFICATION BY LAMELLAR AND ANNULAR LAMELLAR KERATOPLASTY*t
PERFORATING keratoplasty is found to be most successful in cases of small central corneal nebulae and keratoconus. In both these conditions the graft lies completely surrounded by healthy cornea. Where there is gross opacification extending widely throughout the thickness of the cornea and especially if degenerative changes are present, then a simple perforating graft rapidly becomes completely...
متن کاملPainless Acanthamoeba keratitis in a soft contact lens wearer--case report.
Aim of our paper is to present a case of painless Acanthamoeba keratitis in a soft contact lens wearer. A 17-year-old male, highly myopic, prolonged soft contact lens wearer, presented to us with painless red watery right eye having remarkably diminished vision.
